Just two months after the widely criticized decision to kill energy efficiency, the Public Service Commission is considering a power grab from Louisiana’s Solar PV owners. In response, the Alliance and GSREIA are proud to launch The Voices of Louisiana Solar, a new media project focused on highlighting stories from the solar community! What it is:
With the goal of creating a statewide solar energy network base, the Voices of Louisiana Solar Campaign is a media project focusing on interviewing solar panel owners. These solar owners from all walks of life tell their stories in the form of short video clips. The campaign aims to promote the popularity and importance of solar energy.
Campaigning for Net Metering:
Under current law, energy produced by solar systems belong to their owner. PSC Commissioner, Clyde Holloway wants to change the rules by forcing solar owners to sell their excess energy to the utility at a fraction of its value. Then, the utility company will be allowed to sell that power at a higher rate to other customers. People with solar on their roofs will no longer be utility customers with a net-meter, but rather a wholesale energy generator but without the benefits. Solar customers are fighting back and taking their stories to the media. People across Louisiana are tired of paying outrageous utility bills and thousands of those people decided to do something about it. Through the Voices of Louisiana Solar Campaign, solar owners are speaking up and refusing to stand by while energy companies attempt to kill affordable energy alternatives.
How to Become Part of Voices of Louisiana Solar:
In order for the campaign to reach its full potential, we ask that solar companies and their customers participate as interview subjects and be featured in the videos. Please contact us right away at voicesoflasolar@all4energy.org about how to get your company and customers included in the campaign.
