Baton Rouge, LA – November 1 is the day that Entergy, SWEPCO, and Cleco customers will have access to Energy Efficiency programs. Utility scaled energy efficiency programs have proven to be the most affordable way to control energy demand. Rather than investing hundreds of millions of dollars in building new power plants, utility companies can meet increasing demand with energy efficiency.
The programs will be starting a month late; originally the programs were planned to begin on October 1. However, days before October 1, the LPSC suspended the programs. The public responded with outrage, and shock. Thankfully, the LPSC quickly set a new deadline for November 1.
Energy efficiency companies released a statement in response to the new deadline:
“Our companies are an essential piece to the success of the LPSC energy efficiency programs. We have spent tens of thousands of dollars and hours collectively to prepare for the program. We are committed to bringing the highest quality service. to utility customers. We are ready to help families and businesses save money on their electric bills.”
BACKGROUND
October 1st was supposed to be the day that the energy efficiency industry got to work in Louisiana. Instead, hundreds of small businesses were stunned when the Public Service Commission suspended Louisiana’s energy efficiency programs.
