Currently, Entergy New Orleans generates all of its electricity with dirty fossil fuel burning and nuclear plants. This meeting means large amounts clean energy, like hydro, solar, biomass, and wind, can get added to our mix, and you can show your support for it. The addition of any utility-scale renewable energy will bring good local jobs and cleaner air for us to breathe. New Orleans has a history of showing the rest of Louisiana how to incorporate progressive energy policy that makes economic, environmental, and human sense. By opening the doors to big renewable projects, New Orleans can show the whole gulf coast that we are truly clean energy leaders.
The Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) is a guiding vision for New Orleans’ energy policy over the next twenty years. It is meant to provide a blueprint for how we will meet our needs through a combination of traditional power supplies, energy efficiency and renewable energy. An optimal plan means lower energy bills and the transition to cleaner energy sources. Building large scale renewable projects into this plan shows a commitment and intention to making New Orleans a sustainable city.
