If you’re going away for the Fourth of July or any other time during the summer months, here are few tips to help you save energy both hom and away.
- Turn up your thermostat! The energy you save turning up the temp is greater than the energy you’ll use cooling your home down when you get back.
- Close the windows and blinds. It’s amazing how much heat seeps into your home just because of sunshine through the windows.
- Unplug electronics and appliances that you won’t be using while you’re away and think about turning your fridge temp up just a bit or better still emptying it all together and unplugging it. Make sure all your lights and fans are turned off too.
And as for what you can do to save energy during your vacation….try these tips on for size!
- Choose hotels with the EPA’s Energy Star label. These hotels use up to 35 percent less energy and emit up to 36 percent fewer greenhouse gases!
- Use public transportation wherever and whenever possible.
- Think about offsetting your carbon emissions with a donation to your nearest Carbon Fund.
