Yesterday in Baton Rouge, the Louisiana Public Service Commission voted 3-2 to reinstate the statewide plan for energy efficiency that had been voted down in February. Following some minor revisions and further public comments, the program is set to resume in mid July at which point Louisiana as a whole can start to benefit from successful efficiency programs and incentives like those already in place in New Orleans via Energy Smart. This exciting outcome is the result of several months of hard work from the staff here at the Alliance and our allies. We believe that the strong outpouring of support on this issue is in many ways a declaration from Louisiana businesses and individuals that we are ready for an energy efficient future. We would like to give a very heartfelt thanks to all of the businesses and our non-profit allies who stepped up and spoke out on behalf of energy efficiency for Louisiana by making calls and sending letters to their commissioners and by joining us at the vote. Additionally, we would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Louisiana Public Service Commission for helping to put energy efficiency to work for the people of Louisiana. There is still work to be done with the revisions and public comments on the plan, but yesterday, Louisiana made a big step forward toward a brighter future.
